Temporary changes to service at Witley Community Recycling Centre
Witley Community Recycling Centre is to temporarily run a reduced service while improvement works are finalised.
Witley Community Recycling Centre, Petworth Road, is being redeveloped and extended to provide a modern, accessible and easy to use facility. From 13 March we will be operating a reduced service for around 10 weeks so the new site can be integrated with the old one.
The facility will be closed to the public on 12 March to allow the temporary site to be set up. The temporary site will operate slightly reduced hours, opening 9am – 4.15pm every day.
Residents will be able to dispose of the following materials at the temporary facility:
• General waste;
• Black bag waste;
• Green waste;
• Metal;
• Small electrical items;
• Wood;
• Rubble.
For other materials alternative community recycling centres are at:
Elmbridge Road, Cranleigh, GU6 8JX (Around seven miles from the Witley site)
Moorfield Road, Guildford, GU1 1RU (Around 10 miles from the Witley site)
We will be unable to accept waste from vans, trailers or pickups at the temporary site.
The improvements to the facility will include:
• Better parking and road layout to help site users to move around the site more easily and to reduce queuing;
• A split level design to remove the need for steps;
• A separate entrance and exit to help reduce congestion.
Beverly Sheridan, project manager at SITA Surrey, which operates the site on behalf of Surrey County Council, said: “We are redeveloping and extending Witley Community Recycling Centre to provide residents with a modern, easy to use facility. This redevelopment should help to reduce queuing times for customers and improve the service, which will be of great benefit to local people”.
Signs giving pre-warning of the service changes will be displayed around the facility and leaflets providing details of the alternative sites will be available from staff.
