SITA Surrey to hold public consultation event for the relocation of Slyfield waste facility
SITA Surrey is holding public drop-in exhibitions to display plans for the relocation of Slyfield waste facility.
The company is working on a planning application on behalf of Surrey County Council, to relocate Slyfield community recycling centre and waste transfer station, which is currently on Moorfield Road. The drop-in exhibitions will give residents the opportunity to see our plans and find out more about the proposed development, which is on another part of the industrial estate.
The exhibitions will be held over two days at Spectrum Leisure Centre, Parkway, Guildford GU1 1UP, on Friday 7 October 2011, 12 noon – 4pm and Saturday 8 October 2011, 10am – 3pm. The latest information will be displayed and a number of staff will be on hand to answer questions.
The new larger facility will have a number of benefits over the current one, including:
- A layout that makes it easier for residents to recycle.
- Space for more containers, so we can collect a wider range of materials and change what goes in each bin in line with seasonal demands.
- Separate roads for cars and HGVs to reduce queuing.
- Additional parking spaces so more residents can use the facility at the same time.
- An improved waste transfer station so local councils can collect more materials from the kerbside.
- A better location providing easier access.
Beverly Sheridan, project manager at SITA Surrey, said: "We’re keen to consult with members of the community on our plans and hope they will join us to find out more about our proposals. The new site will be a modern, user-friendly facility that will help residents and businesses to recycle their waste and if we receive planning permission the current site will not have to close while the new facility is built”.
A planning application is likely to be submitted to the County Planning Authority in February next year.
