Charlton Lane community recycling centre
Charlton Lane community recycling centre has been redeveloped to turn it into a modern, state of the art recycling facility. The work to revamp and extend Charlton Lane community recycling centre, Shepperton, was completed in December 2009.
The improvements were carried out to make it easier for Surrey householders to recycle. SITA Surrey is keeping the community recycling centre open during the redevelopment work to ensure minimal disruption to customers.
The improvements include:
- Expansion of the existing site
- Additional parking spaces and an improved traffic flow system
- The creation of a split level site to give easy access to the recycling containers, eliminating the need for steps
- A large area dedicated to green waste
In an effort to be as green as possible 'eco sand' made from recycled glass brought into Charlton Lane has been used during the build as an alternative to sharp sand. Concrete and soil excavated during the works will also be used in the build as fill material.
The Charlton Lane site will be further developed as the Surrey County Council Planning and Regulatory Committee decided to grant planning permission for the development of an eco park at the site. This is subject to it being referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, who will advise if he will review the decision. Further information can be found on our eco park pages.
